USWAR/US-led missile
attack on Khaneqin leaves 60 killed, injured
Marivan, March 22, IRNA -- At least sixty people were killed or
injured in a Saturday US-led missile attack on the northern Kurdish
city of Khaneqin, east of Sulaimaniya, local sources in this western
Iranian border city said.
The toll came as US forces fired more than 100 Tomahawk missiles
into the stronghold of Ansar al-Islam, a shadowy group with alleged
links to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network.
The group is said to have hundreds of fighters in a cluster of
villages in northern Iraq, on a string of jagged peaks. Ansar is said
to be one of the US targets in its invasion of Iraq.
Washington accuses the group of having carried out or planning
to carry out terror attacks against its targets as well as trying to
build biological and chemical weapons with the help of al-Qaeda.
